The club has a vibrant junior section with 40 members. The section takes young golfers from the age of 8 through to 18 years of age. Younger golfers start with the basics at the junior golf clinic on Saturday mornings under the guidance of the resident professional Paul Deeprose. Once their age and ability along with a keen interest means that there is benefit from playing golf, they can join the junior section for a nominal fee. Under the guidance of our junior organiser Ian Munro, juniors can get involved in a full range of activities and competitions. For the more able golfers there are at least two qualifying competitions to enter each month where juniors can have their handicaps assessed and amended. In addition the club sponsors a Golf Academy for our lower handicap golfers with dedicated intensive skill coaching sessions. All adults involved with junior golf at the club have been CRB checked and have clearance to work with children and follow the English Golf Union charter mark guidelines. All junior members are given a full briefing once a year and a pack of information on rules, tips, etiquette, advice and most importantly how to ensure their safety and that of others whilst playing golf. We elect a junior captain and vice captain each year to represent the section and run a junior championship for the coveted Brian Hodgkinson Trophy - the winner is then crowned junior champion. In addition to our own competitions we provide qualifying opportunities for national RBS Daily Telegraph Junior Championships and we currently have juniors representing the club at county level competitions.
